We left a bit later than usual this morning because our trip was less than 100 miles and estimated to be a little less than two hours. Our route took us on I-84 until it ended at I-5 in Portland. A few more miles of Interstate highway and we got off on US-26. We were within the city limits of Portland when we hit our first hill. It was a hint of things to come. Between Portland and Cannon Beach we have to cross the coastal mountain range. These are not high mountains, but with the twisting and turning and the ups and downs of the hills on what was mostly a two lane road, it was certainly a challenging drive. Despite the challenge, we made it to the Cannon Beach RV Resort faster than the GPS calculated. Arriving early is not always a good thing. We didn't realize that check-out time at this RV park is noon and no one seemed in a hurry to meet that deadline. Check-in time is 2pm so we didn't have any basis for a complaint. We sat in front of the office until we saw the trailer that was occupying our assigned spot leave and then we moved to the spot. There are only a few pull through spots in the park and they seemed to be designed for smaller RVs. Our spot was a back-in spot which would not normally be a problem for me. However, this was not my day... it took me longer than usual to get the trailer oriented the way I wanted it. So be it... When we left Fairview, the sun was shining and it was reasonably warm for the time of day. As we headed west the clouds started to come in off the ocean and it was quite overcast by the time we got set up. The weather forecast for Cannon Beach for today was sunny and temperatures in the low 70s. I don't believe we broke 60 degrees and we already had a few drops of rain. Tomorrow is supposed to be a better day and we will be off to explore the north coast of Oregon which is supposed to be beautiful. |
